The Descriptions of the Works Listed Below Were Written by the Artist

Three Little Girls

The Three Little Girls were created together, in 2002,  and the inspiration was the theater play written by Pablo Picasso under the title Four Little Girls

The seemingly disconnected language of the girls in the play, reinforces the cruelty of war against their innocence.

As in the play, the Little Girls here do not show their loveliness and innocence: the cruelty of war is depicted in the grimaces of their faces.  Furthermore, their hands are either "cut off" or trying desperately to find and hold on steady roots of the ground.

Originals: gouache on paper.

HH-TWO PORTRAITS

The following two portraits are my personal responses to a portrait by Hans Holbein (I do not recall which one anymore). I love the "absorbing of" and the "emotional response to" the paintings of some of my most beloved artists: the work that derives this way usually enriches me as an artist as I am inspired rather by art than by nature!

What I, personally, find so fascinating about this particular outcome is its resemblance to the Rouault portrait technique!

Originals: gouache on paper. Year: 2007.

SPERMATIKOS LOGOS

The Spermatikos Logos series consists of three works. The terms that are defined as: Spermatikos (=Greek for "seminal") and Logos (=Greek for "reason") are used here in the sense of "spermatic forces of reason" for the creation of cosmos.

Originals: mixed media and gouache on paper. Year: 2007

Sxisma Art Gallery:

In Red

A woman-a child-in a simple gesture of innocence: the acceptance gesture. Eons of grief are left as marks on the face. The figure seems to stand in front of a window leading into the sky: this sky is dark blue at the left, and pitch black at the right. The figure stands on firm ground, but is drenched in red: the color of blood....

Original: gouache on paper. Year: 2007.

Transforma

The "transformation" of a face during certain processes (meditation, age, experience, etc) has always been the focus of my work. In year 2007, I have created two paintings under this title. Using bold brushes of red, black, and yellow, these two gouache paintings represent some of my best paintings of that period in neo expressionistic style.

Originals: gouache on paper. Year: 2007.

There are some examples (throughout this page) of how Katerina's art would look on a wall, whether in a living room, bedroom, or any other room (or hallway) of a home. Sometimes, buying just an art print can give you the experience of what to expect by buying the original!

Always keep in mind two basic factors:

1. the original might be smaller than some exhibits here (art prints can come in any desirable size). The exact dimensions are given on the buy now link!

2. the original art (even at a smaller size) is 1000 % better than any print! There is no substitute for the excitement that an original produces when framed with love and care!

TWO PORTRAITS

At the felt and right, there are two portraits (both created in 2007) that represent my neo exressionistic style of that period at its best.

Originals: gouache on paper.

PG-VATS1 and PG-VATS2:

These two paintings were inspired by Paul Gauguin's masterwork "Visions At The Sermon". The titles of my paintings refer to the initials of this great artist (PG) and the initials of his masterpiece!

I have used the "collage" method together with gouache.

The collage parts are the little circles in gray: they are the microscopic images (in several sizes) of various viruses harmful to humans.

My "transfer" of the vision to our 21st Century included the polluted landscapes of our times.
